YEAH!! MY BIRTHDAY WOOHOOO!!!
Decided to take a trip with my lovely girlfriend to her homeland...MEXICO! We wanted something different and unique, out of the ordinary and off the beaten path. No Cabo or Cancun etc. No we wanted to go DEEP into Mexico..down south where the hardcore "real" Mexico is. Our 1 week trip took us to CHIAPAS and OAXACA. I have pretty much 1000 photos between 2 cameras. So I will do my best to pick the best representation here...hope you all enjoy!
CHIAPAS - San Cristobal
this is a little chocolate shop literally 1 block from our hotel. We came in and got a legit original Mexican hot chocolate..oh man it was good. Very rich and super flavorful!
Here is a straight shot down our street. We were at the top of the "main drag" in town. Calle Real De Guadelupe.
same view looking back..you can see the chocolate shop on the left...and the huge Church at the top of the hill next to our hotel
one of our first excursions...to the Mercado
check out the fresh produce...anyone like mangoes?
you cannot get more organic than this stuff...
Chiapas is of course known for their tamales...so we found this little old lady with a stand inside the mercado...these were definitely some of the best tamales we have ever had..a chicken mole and a pork one.
After the mercado we jumped in the communal van/taxi called a combine? I am not sure if I spelled that right. But we headed over to Chamula the smaller village with the indigenous people live and work, they commute back from forth from Chamula to San Cristobal so these little vans run back and forth all day. 12 pesos a ride...how you gonna beat that? About a buck...
the church in the square in Chamula
shot of the buildings and homes around the square in Chamula
all cultures love their fresh chicken..this could of easily been shot in China or Vietnam...same same...
after all that we headed back home and we were starving..so a little Pollo Asada!! FRESH FRESH FRESH!!!
hand made tortillas
this place was busy, people just coming through the big open window and buying whole chickens to bring home for dinner.
Just racks of Chicken!!
Lastly a shot of our little hotel..very pretty!
sun setting outside our hotel door...
Wanted to add some pics of the CHURCH!!
Amber jewelry is everywhere...
inside the POX shop..the local liquor specific to this region...
Next destination...day trip to the famous CANYON EL SUMIDERO!! Hang tight!
