Reading People

I am reading this book...and hopefully it will make me more observant and help me in a bunch of life situations. So yeah dont lie to me or pretend to laugh at my jokes...cuz after reading this I WILL KNOW!

Vegas = Miriam, Wayne, Poker and Craps

What a weekend. Memorial weekend was much more exciting than usual...I flew to Las Vegas to catch my first Chinese Canto-Pop Concert with Miriam Yeung. I posted about this a few weeks back so yeah I finally went. Me, mom and sis all 3 went to Vegas, but only mom and I went to the concert.
This is the show poster outside the Mandalay Bay Events Center.....
This is one of THE BEST shots I was able to take of Miriam from where we were sitting. Not bad using my Canon PnS and using the Digital Zoom. I was very lucky this came out so well.

Here are the tickets...we paid $108 for them but we got moved around to a little better seats. It was about 2500 total in attendance. Miriam was great she came out for her encore and stayed a long time and sang 3 more songs and chatted with the audience. Mom and me had lots of fun!

Since that was Sunday night, we had Monday night to the family decided to go see WAYNE BRADY at the Venetian. Let me just say...HANDS DOWN, he is one of THEE MOST TALENTED PEOPLE PERIOD. He can sing, dance, act, comedy, impersonations...all perfectly. His show is fun and he does improv, invites people to participate and great singing etc. Very enjoyable Vegas show. About $60 per ticket for 90 mins of good fun. I would recco it...especially if you are a fan of Wayne's it was good to see him in person.

Our Tickets to Wayne....

I wanted to also state that I have now officially played poker, REAL poker in Vegas in a REAL poker room a grand total of TWO TIMES. I played this weekend at Bally's poker room and I popped my cherry on 1/2 No Limit Texas Hold'em. They have $100 min and a $300 max buy in. Let me tell was FUN! I will cut to the chase...

I get dealt - KK
call - $12 (raise $10 to the $2 call)
flop - J, 9 J

so now I have 2 pairs...Kings and Jacks. Checks across the table. I throw a little out there. $20 more.

I get 3 callers.

4th street - K

Yup...your boy has just hit a full house, Kings over Jacks. Checks go around....comes to me. I look down...and I say....ALL IN. I had about $285 in chips or something close.

one guy folds.

next taking his time. I am PRAYING he calls....and he has been playing pretty aggressively and he has the chips...he was one of the chip leaders at the table, so he has the money. Another minute or so...goes by. HE CALLS.

BAM! We flip...he was holding J,9. So he had a full house too..Jacks over 9s. So HE HAD TO CALL ME. He died when he saw my KINGS. YAY BABY. I won that pot...and I was literally SHAKING. My heart was beating and my hands were shaking...OMG. I can never be a pro...I react too much to my cards. Pretty funny. That was my best hand...I stayed a few more and won a couple more pots...and walked away a very HAPPY DUDE! Not bad for a newbie.

Then I went to CRAPS on Monday night. Let me just say...FIRST TIME EVER...I rode a wave like that. On my table...we had 3-4 guys that all rolled for a MINIMUM of 30 mins each. Hitting numbers and hard ways. Let me just say...that table COULD NOT LOSE. I have never experienced that ever. I was at that craps table for 2 hours. WIN WIN WIN WIN. If I only betted more than I did. I played with what little I had but all in all, it was a kinda weird "life" experience to be at a table and experience something that people only talk about. The kind of Vegas craps stories you hear about but never experience. Well, I did...I will never forget...and no I did not walk away with thousands...which I could of...but just being there from beginning to end was just crazy. I will never forget it.

Yao Ming

Talking shit will get you arrested...stupid!

Did anyone see this on YOUTUBE? Basically, this has been burning up YouTube world wide. If anyone here can translate that would be cool...this is not my dialect of Chinese so I have no clue what she is saying.

Apparently, she is BAD MOUTHING the Sichuan people in China that suffered in the earthquake. She is talking mad crazy ignorant shit. From what I gathered on youtube, she has been arrested for what would equal to treason here in the US. She is in custody now...for her own damn protection. If anyone finds her, they are going to kill her. There is huge uproar regarding this video..some even say it is faked but others say its real and the girl in the video has already been caught. I read some more and apparently she was pissed because she could not play her favorite online game, because the country has a 3 days of mourning and things were shut down. So because she could not play her game, she did this video rant...and in jail now.

Just terrible...for someone like this to exist and talk her big fat ass mouth off. She is going to get way or another. What China needs more of this crap right now. Sigh....

Tonight we attended a small awards dinner for a program he was a part of since 10th grade called the PCA or the Pre Collegiate Academy. It is a program that sends kids to Cal to a few weeks in the summer where they get a college experience etc. Some pics from the event...

It was pretty neat to see and hear where some of these kids were going to college. A couple to Stanford, one to Yale, one to Oxy, one to Wellesley and a few UC etc. Pretty good stuff. I know if I had to go to HS now? Man...I would be lucky to attend PCC man! Sheeesh!

Heavy Hitters Magazine on N'Contrast

CBS Television Up Fronts

Today I was invited to the LA Satellite broadcast of the CBS Studios Television Upfronts in NYC. For those not in the know, the "upfronts" is an annual event where all the major networks show the advertising world what they have planned for the summer and fall of this year. They show how great they are in radio, online, outdoor and of course a sneak preview of their fall shows. Since this happens in NYC, they run a live feed here in LA for those that cannot attend but are still interested parties. My good friend who is Director of Publicity over at CBS invited me to attend, so it was great to see her as well as do some networking and say hello to some of my old press contacts. It was a nice afternoon. The feed was held on the Paramount lot.

In here...the beautiful Paramount main screening theater. This is one of the best screening rooms in LA. We were treated to a light lunch and then watched the presentation and got a sneak peek into what is in store for CBS' line up this fall.
I need to make one point...I am not a big CBS fan. I don't have any shows I watch on the network...but that may or shall I say will change. Truth be told I am not CBS' demo anyway. So they do not miss my viewership. But I did see a promising show this afternoon.

It is called THE MENTALIST. It stars SIMON BAKER..who a lot of girls find kinda hot...but I like the premise of the show...and most of all it FEATURES AN ASIAN AMERICAN ACTOR!

THE MENTALIST stars Golden Globe Award nominee Simon Baker ("The Devil Wears Prada") as Patrick Jane, a detective and independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation. Within the Bureau, Jane is notorious for his blatant lack of protocol and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium, whose paranormal abilities he now admits he feigned. Jane's role in cracking a series of tough high-profile cases is greatly valued by his fellow agents. However, no-nonsense Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney, "Prison Break") openly resists having Jane in her unit and alternates between reluctantly acknowledging Jane's usefulness and blasting him for his theatrics, narcissism and dangerous lack of boundaries. Lisbon's team includes agents Kimball Cho (Tim Kang, "Rambo"), Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman, "The Nine"), and rookie member Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti, "The O.C."), who all think Jane's a loose cannon but admire his charm and knack for clearing cases. Bruno Heller (creator of "Rome") is creator/executive producer, and Emmy Award winner David Nutter ("Band of Brothers") is the executive producer for Warner Bros. Television.

Check out the new fall shows here,

So yeah that show gets my support. At least one of our Asian brothers has a job right? So SUPPORT MAN!

China Earthquake - 10K dead

Rescuers reach China quake epicenter

* Story Highlights
* NEW: First group of aid workers reach epicenter of Monday's quake
* NEW: Chinese premier urges faster pace of rescue effort day after quake strikes
* State media says more than 10,000 dead; figure expected to rise
* Nearly 900 children buried when a school building collapses, 50 bodies found

JIANG YOU, China (CNN) -- Teams of rescuers battling through rock and mudslides Tuesday arrived at the epicenter of a massive earthquake in central China as aftershocks continued to shake the region where 11,922 people are believed to have perished, officials say.

A string of nearly 30 seismic jolts hit Sichuan province in the first 24 hours following Monday's quake and slowing the progress of 1,300-strong rescue teams. All of those quakes were magnitude 4.0 and above.

Military doctors and soldiers arrived around midday and began their search for survivors and the injured in Wenchuan County, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

Roads blocked by rocks and mudslides had hampered the effort to reach the epicenter in Wenchuan County, forcing military doctors and soldiers to walk to reach the area almost 24 hours after the 7.9 magnitude earthquake shook central China, Xinhua said.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao ordered the military to make it a top priority to open the roads into Wenchuan County by mid-day Tuesday.

The Chinese government said the death toll was sure to rise as authorities began to reach some of the worst-hit areas. Thousands remained trapped under the rubble, including hundreds of children at a half-dozen schools.

"Blocked roads, disrupted communication and continuous rainfall have all created obstacles to our rescue efforts," Wen said, according to Xinhua. "People's lives and property safety are the top priorities and many people are still trapped in debris."

An expert told CNN the quake, which struck at 2:28 p.m. (2:28 a.m. ET) Monday, was the largest the region has seen "for over a generation."

CNN's John Vause saw block after block of devastation in the town of Jiang You, about 60 miles (100 km) from the epicenter, arriving there about a day after the quake hit.

"These people who live in the city are now hunkering down under tarpaulins and under tents," Vause said, as a steady drizzle added to the misery. "Many are afraid to go back indoors because their buildings are no longer safe."

Nearly all the confirmed deaths were in Sichuan Province. Authorities expected the toll to climb as rescuers reached the epicenter. Local radio quoted disaster relief officials as saying a third of the buildings in Wenchuan had collapsed and another third were seriously damaged.

The province is home 68 giant pandas at a pair of research bases. The State Forestry Administration said all had survived the quake, according to state-run media. The fate of the 130 pandas housed at the Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center was unknown, Xinhua reported.

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport reopened Tuesday after authorities inspected its runways for damage following the quake, Xinhua reported. The resumption of air service gives the province additional links for funneling supplies into the badly battered region.

China Eastern Airlines said it is ferrying in hundreds of rescue personnel and tons of cargo from eastern China, according to state-run media.

Joe Guo, a university student in Chengdu, told CNN the scene is chaotic as the military tries to rush aid into the surrounding rural areas.

"The traffic is not good because a lot of the roads were ... seriously damaged," Guo said on Tuesday. "The army people -- they were just running there to get the stuff in and the injured people out."

Some 2,000 tourists were stranded in the northwestern part of the province and a landslide buried a tourist coach in Sichuan's Maoxian County, killing 37, Xinhua reported.

Forty-eight tourists made their way out of the region on foot and arrived in Dujiangyan on Tuesday, state-run media said. Among the stranded tourists were 15 Britons.

The British tourists were likely in Wolong at the Panda center, according to Xinhua.

The state-run Zhongxin news agency reported that a survivor who escaped Beichuan County in Sichuan Province described the province as having been "razed to the ground." Rescuers were stranded about 10 kilometers (six miles) from the county, Xinhua reported.

The Red Cross Society of China, coordinating some international aid efforts, encouraged financial donations because of the difficulty of getting supplies to those most in need. Impact Your World

Mercy Corps, a U.S.-based humanitarian group, is channeling aid through a partner agency in China, the group's director told CNN.

"Everyone is incredibly nervous and shocked about everything that's happening," Kate Janis said, adding, "The first step is getting there and next step is (determining) what can we do?"

At least six schools collapsed in the quake or its aftershocks, Xinhua reported. At one school, almost 900 eighth graders and ninth graders were believed to be buried, a villager said. VideoWatch a report on a school hit by the quake »

By Monday night, at least 50 bodies had been pulled from the rubble at Juyuan Middle School in Juyuan Township of Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province, Xinhua reported.

"Some buried teenagers were struggling to free themselves from the ruins while others were calling for help. Eight excavators were working at the site. Devastated parents watched as five cranes worked at the site and an ambulance waited," Xinhua reported.

Some 600 people were confirmed dead and another 2,300 people were buried under two collapsed chemical plants in Sichuan's Shifang city, where 80 tons of ammonia leaked, Xinhua reported. The plants were among a series of buildings that collapsed, including private homes, schools and factories. VideoWatch a report on the growing toll inflicted by the quake »

Much of the nation's transportation system was halted. Xinhua reported there were "multiple landslides and collapses along railway lines" near Chengdu.

Sichuan Province sits in the Sichuan basin and is bordered by the Himalayas to the west. The Yangtze River flows through the province and the Three Gorges Dam in nearby Hubei Province controls flooding to the Sichuan -- though there were no reports of damage to the world's largest dam.

The last major earthquake in the region occurred in the northwestern margin of the Sichuan basin when a 7.5-magnitude quake killed more than 9,300 people on August 25, 1933.

While many of the most immediate efforts were focused on Sichuan Province, Xinhua reported that there were dead and injured also in Gansu, Chongqing and Yunnan.

A 40-car freight train, carrying 13 tankers full of gasoline, derailed and caught fire Monday in Gansu province, officials said, according to state-run media, cutting the Baoji-Chengdu railway.

Other stories of destruction poured in from around the country. Xinhua said one person was killed in Santai County, in the city of Mianyang, when a water tower fell.

A provincial government spokesman said officials feared more dead and injured would be found in collapsed houses in Dujiangyan City in Wenchuan County.

Bonnie Thie, the country director for the Peace Corps, told CNN she was on a university campus in Chengdu, in the eastern part of China's Sichuan province about 60 miles from the epicenter, when the first quake hit.

"You could see the ground shaking," Thie told CNN.

The shaking "went on for what seemed like a very long time," she said.

Bruce Presgrave, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey, said the quake's effects were heightened because of its strength, proximity to major population centers and shallow depth. Shallow quakes tend to do more damage near the epicenter than do deeper ones, he said.

An earthquake with 7.5 magnitude struck the northern Chinese city of Tangshan in 1976, killing 255,000 people -- the greatest death toll from an earthquake in the last four centuries and the second greatest in recorded history, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Tangshan is roughly 995 miles (1,600 km) from Chengdu, the nearest major city to the epicenter of Monday's quake.

Monday's quake shook the ground in Beijing, 950 miles (1,528 km) away. Residents of the capital, which hosts this year's Olympic Games in August, said they felt a rolling sensation that lasted about a minute. It resulted in the evacuation of thousands of people from Beijing buildings. VideoWatch an explanation of how strong Monday's quake was »

More than 30 earthquakes -- with magnitudes between 4.0 and 6.0 -- were recorded in the first 24 hours following the initial quake, the USGS reported.

A spokesman for the Beijing Olympic Committee said no Olympic venues were affected.

The earthquake was also felt in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, and as far away as Hanoi, Vietnam, and Bangkok, Thailand, according to the Hong Kong-based Mandarin-language channel Phoenix TV.

Fatboy Goals

I figured I would share this to my 2-3 readers of my blog. As you know it isn't easy keeping my sexy body the way it is...and since being unemployed and all it is very very maybe too easy to literally sit around and eat all day watching tv. So I made an effort to actually go out and do something when I have "free" days. When there is nothing going on, no meetings, no lunch, no dinners with friends, when I have nothing to do, I will go the gym or ride my 24" BMX Cruiser around the Rose Bowl (about 3.5 miles). So I have been good about it...and recently I made some great gains at the gym!

Let me say this outfront...I believe the key to fitness and athleticism is knowing one's strengths right? You need to know what you are good at and exploit it. I guess it is the same in life. If you cannot sing...don't sing. If you are good at numbers, go into accounting or finance. get my point.

I have pretty much always knew my body. I am always going to be chubby. I will probably always weight over 200lbs. That is that. So I aint going to fight that. Also...I have a "football player's strength." I can move large weights for short distances. I have no cardio strength. Let me put it this way. I can bench over 200lbs, but I cannot run a mile without almost dying. So..there you have it. So knowing this I train to my strengths. I do not try to run a mile in under 6 mins. But I do try to bench 275lbs.

So why am I sharing all of this? Well, today I was working shoulders and I reached an OLD weight that I did not think I would be able to lift anymore. I was doing seated military presses with a barbell. Looks like this: why am I so proud of myself? I pressed the exact weight above in the pic. With NO SPOT and for 6-7 reps. This was my last set too. So who knows how much more I could do if I was fresher or had a spotter? Look at the see what he is lifting? He is pressing 135lbs, (2 x 45lbs plates + 45 lbs Bar) behind his neck and above his head. I DID THAT for 6-7 reps. No big deal for most gym rats...but for this FATBOY...heck I am very proud. My work out was:

Warm up - 75lbs 2 sets of 10 (45lbs bar with 30lbs (2 x 15lbs on each side)
1st session - 90lbs 2 sets of 10 (45lbs bar with 50lbs (2 x 25lbs plates)
2nd session - 115lbs 2 sets of 10 (45lbs bar with 70lbs (2 x 35lbs plates)
3rd session - 135 lbs 1 set of 6-7 reps (45 lbs bar with 90 lbs (2 x 45lbs plates)

Yay! WOW! Muscle memory...your body does not forget. I have not lifted this much in months..maybe a I was very pleased.

Tomorrow I will hit chest...I have been able to get 245lbs for about 2-3 reps. I hope to get that easier and easier and reach my goal of 275lbs. Once I reach that I will post for sure. I can easily rep 225lbs now for about 6-7 adding a quarter to each side should be in my future. Fingers crossed.

I Heart AG!!!!

I am not ashamed to say it...I love the new American Gladiators. WOW. I about sexy...these chicks are bad ass!

My #1 wifey has to be...CRUSH! She is a MMA fighter and sooooo cute!
drool..she is bad ass!

the other OG Gladiator from last season that is pretty hot in my book is...
VENOM. Her face is ok...but it is her body. She has an AWESOME man totally buff but not manly...and wow. Watching her on tv...I am a fan. She is sexxxy!

then you have the NEW female gladiators...
this is JET. She was the winner of last season's grand prize and therefore got to be a gladiator. These pictures actually suck. SHE IS MUCH HOTTER on TV. Her sooooo sexy. I cannot even begin to tell you how hot her mid section is. OMG. Loving her...again the pics on the NBC site of her are not that flattering for some reason. She is great.

and the other gal that won my heart...

This is PHOENIX. Daddy likes.

So add another show to the DVR lineup....something to watch on Monday nights. Yup.

Steak and Pool in C Town

I went down to Cerritos today to hang with some friends. One of my boys had this huge slab of meat and said come on down..lets eat this bitch! So never saying no to a free steak meal I drove is what we were working with....

We got to select how thick we wanted it...and threw down at the grill.....

Sadly no pics of the finished product why? Because we ate it I didn't even snap a pic! HA! Yeah what a fatty.

After steaks we headed out to shoot some pool...and that was fun. Been a long time since I shot pool. And I still suck. Oh well...practice makes we may go play again. More to come on my pool game for sure!

Today I got to meet and play with my friend's new baby girl beagle....this is Jeff and Cyn's new puppy....PIPPEN JR. Yes...their other beagle is named JORDAN.

This is a new puppy that is being welcomed to the family after Pippen passed away. Pippen was only 2 years old when she passed. We all wish that Pippen Jr. will live a long and happy life!

Dumplings & Dessert

Today, I had dinner with my friend June and her coworkers. We were celebrating her co workers birthday at a local noodle/dumpling place. We went to 101 Noodle Express on Valley and New Ave.
Here the restaurant. It has the basic menu for this type of food.

The famous JIA JIANG MEIN. This is one of my favorite types of noodles. This version is actually pretty good. More "homestyle" and a lot drier than others. Fresh cucumber, pork and noodles. Good stuff.
Here are the steam dumplings. These were VERY good. We had Shrimp and Pork ones and some with pumpkin and pork. I will admit these were very very tasty.
My friend Jean ordered the Ox Tail noodle soup. The Ox Tail was very tender but the soup it self was very very mild. It was kind of flavorless in my opinion. I like my broths to be very flavorful and be yummy but this soup was pretty flat.

This is their version of Shanghai rice cakes. As you can see it is cut up and left whole and in larger chunks like other places. This was very good too. Good flavor and not oily at all.
This was the only other disappointment ...the other soup noodle. This is the beef noodle. Again, usually at other places the Beef Noodle is very flavorful, sometimes spicy and just very robust. Not here....again pretty flat.
This was another GOOD dish..the beef roll. Nicely crispy onion pancakes with beef and mint and celantro. Very tasty.

After dinner we all drove down the block to...
Phoenix dessert boutique on Valley and Chapel.

Matt ordered the egg tarts. They were actually still warm. But truth be told I am not a huge fan about their egg tarts. I have tasted much better at other places. But still a fresh egg tart always hits the spot.

This is my dessert at Phoenix. This is the mango tofu pudding with tapioca, coconut milk and condensed milk. MMMMMM MMMMMM good stuff. Really refreshing and one of the better things at Phoenix. I am not a big fan of their food but the desserts are pretty good. Mango and strawberry pudding is one of the best. Nice night...and I am pretty full...ugh. Time to go to sleep!

Culver City Adventures

This was a great afternoon...hanging out with friends, exploring cool parts of town, eating good food and actually meeting and seeing come cool, semi famous folks! So...first off...

While having lunch at FORD'S FILLING STATION which is in Culver City we got to meet.....ANDREW ZIMMERN! He was super nice and took pictures with us nerdy peeps that totally watch his show BIZARRE FOODS. Myls told him she DVRs all his shows and I admitted to him, I only watch the shows when he is in Asia! He totally laughed and joked back with us. I just told him, man I have no interest when you are in Peru or Germany...but when you are in Shanghai its on the DVR! Never know who you are going to run into!

I must say the food at FORD'S is pretty dang good...check out my meal. I had the Meatloaf Sandwich....WOW!

After lunch we walked over to AKASHA's on the corner. This place was pretty cool too...and then we walked in..and I SAW HIM! I was like OMG that is TAKASHI MURAKAMI!!! He was sitting there taking a meeting. I telling my friends...that is the artist that we just saw his work over at Royal/T! Man...I wish I had some money...I would of drove back to the store, bought something and drove it back to Murakami to have him sign it! WOW!

So...trying to be slick..and not too stalker ish...I clicked off a few:

Pretty dang cool....well Akasha has a very nice vibe too.

and here are some pics of the good stuff....
