This was supposed to be a poem that was published in the Washington Post. I have tried to find it myself, but I could not. So...I cannot confirm its validity. But...nonetheless it is a pretty good "poem" and addresses alot of the CRAP I hear about CHINA. Hits the nail on the head...at least to this Chinese boy.

Read it for yourself:

When we were the Sick Man of Asia, We were called The Yellow Peril.

When we are billed to be the next Superpower, we are called The Threat.

When we closed our doors, you smuggled drugs to open markets.

When we embrace Free Trade, You blame us for taking away your jobs.

When we were falling apart, You marched in your troops and wanted your
fair share.

When we tried to put the broken pieces back together again, Free

you screamed, It Was an Invasion!

When tried Communism, you hated us for being Communist.

When we embrace Capitalism, you hate us for being Capitalist.

When we have a billion people, you said we were destroying the planet.

When we tried limiting our numbers, you said we abused human rights.

When we were poor, you thought we were dogs.

When we loan you cash, you blame us for your national debts.

When we build our industries, you call us Polluters.

When we sell you goods, you blame us for global warming.

When we buy oil, you call it exploitation and genocide.

When you go to war for oil, you call it liberation.

When we were lost in chaos and rampage, you demanded rules of law.

When we uphold law and order against violence, you call it violating
human rights.

When we were silent, you said you wanted us to have free speech.

When we are silent no more, you say we are brainwashed-xenophobics.

Why do you hate us so much, we asked.

No, you answered, we don't hate you.

We don't hate you either,

But, do you understand us?

Of course we do, you said,

We have AFP, CNN and BBC's...

What do you really want from us?

Think hard first, then answer...

Because you only get so many chances.

Enough is Enough, Enough Hypocrisy for This One World.

We want One World, One Dream, and Peace on Earth.

This Big Blue Earth is Big Enough for all of Us.

For the sake of FASHION

OK so for those that KNOW me...I am not much of a sports guy. Infact I have ZERO interest in sports. Maybe when it is the finals or the superbowl I will participate and watch the games as a spectator with friends. But I have no clue who is who and plays for what or what stats. A girl's dream come true right? HA!

Anyways...so yes I finally took the plunge and purchased one of these:

This is a Nike Retro Replica Jersey of Michael Jordan's rookie year with the Bulls. I really like this one because the "Chicago" in script is very cool.

I have always admired MJ the MAN as well as being the best player ever...and actually being alive and able to appreciate when he actually played. I remember going to Chicago to visit my grandma and having family taking me to the "Jordan's Restaurant" and buying a Chicago Bulls Shooting Shirt at the mall in Chicago. I remember going to the United center and taking a picture next to the statue of MJ outside, and I can remember him actually playing and winning both 3 peats. So yeah being an Old Guy has its privileges. I guess I can say I earned the right to this jersey simply because I was around when he wore it. or not. Either way, I now have something to wear with my Air Jordan sneakers. That's all I wanted....

HEAVY HITTERS Magazine profile

Did a little freelance PR work for my buddy...

This article appears in the Asians In America newsletter....

From Pizza Delivery Guy to Magazine Publisher

By Jennifer L. Johnson-Nam for AIA | April 2008

HeavyhittersJohn Jarasa is not what most people think of when they hear the term model minority. On the path to becoming a founder and editor of Heavy Hitters Magazine, Jarasa has failed high school English, accumulated hundreds of dollars in speeding tickets, and meandered through a list of occupations too numerous to name. If the old Jarasa told today'€™s Jarasa that he'€™d one day become a writer, he'€™d probably call him a liar.

"€œI definitely never expected to be where I am. I just kind of got swept up and became passionate about it," says Jarasa.

To many, Jarasa occupies a dream job. He sets his own hours, gets invited to exclusive Hollywood parties, and most importantly, gets to interview and talk about custom cars with those who know them best. If there are any doubts as to one's authenticity, he'€™s not afraid to test them. Looking up at a 7'1 feet giant Shaquille O'€™Neal, he'€™d ask, "€œCan you actually drive this Ferrari? Do you actually fit inside?"

As a sort of car fashion hybrid, the premise of Heavy Hitters is "€œLifestyles of the Rich and Not So Famous."€ Instead of Robin Leach taking us into the mansions of stuffy old women and their poodle companions, the magazine is like a more democratic, every-man'€™s Robb Report. Flip through an issue and you'€™ll see profiles of people ranging from that of the "€˜regular-Joe" to owners of aerospace companies, artists and celebrities who, besides a professed love of cars, have nothing else in common. The magazine'€™s reader, according to Jarasa, is someone who really knows cars and is well versed in audio, performance and customization.

Jarasa, who is Filipino and Chinese, traces his roots from Ontario Canada. He spent most of his adolescence in Silver Lake, a predominantly Mexican area outside of Hollywood, California. Here, Jarasa spent his days cutting class to attend drag races and fixing up his used Honda.

While learning to work on cars, Jarasa also made many brave attempts at generating income. He took classes at Cal State University Long Beach, passed a real estate agent exam, and worked as a shoe salesman, pizza-delivery man and chiropractor. The closest he ever got to the medical profession was his work as a respiratory therapist in which he "€œdrained people'€™s lungs."€

"€œWhen you'€™re Asian," states Jarasa, "€œthere'€™s a pretty good chance you'€™re raised to think doctor lawyer, doctor lawyer. There was a period where all I ever heard was, '€˜You go to college and you be a doctor.'€™ I was like shit, I can barely wake up!"

Jarasa'€™s path to writing and later editing came serendipitously. He began by writing for a friend's local magazine in Southern California. With some writing experience under his belt, he was soon invited by Low Rider Magazine to work as a freelance writer. He then became the editor of the magazine and the new Heavy Hitters as well.

"€œI know people from the outside probably thought, '€˜Dude you'€™re Asian! What are you doing working at Low Rider?'€™ And I'€™d tell them, '€˜Yeah, but I grew up with Mexicans.'€™ That'€™s Silver Lake," says Jarasa. "It'™s what I know. It'€™s more about the knowledge you bring to the table. If you have the skills, people are going to totally respect you."€

As the editor, Jarasa believes his biggest challenge is to develop his magazine into something different. "You have to find a different angle,"€ comments Jarasa. "€œIn our stories, we try to go for the guys who aren'€™t yet out in the public eye. That'€™s not easy to get."

For those interested in developing their talents as an editor, Jarasa highlights three pieces of advice. He points out that one has to know what the market wants, learn to be good with people and last, how to manage the time well.

"You have to understand the target market, the people you interview, and how your people want to be portrayed," says Jarasa. "€œSo many of the people you interview are just scared of how they might be portrayed. So they have to trust that they'€™re not going to feel exploited. Of course, on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have some people who are not so afraid, and there, you'€™ll have to worry for them."

For Asian Americans, Jarasa has one extra advice. "If there are kids who hear it from their parents who tell them 'you know, you gotta study that much harder cause you'€™re not white': I'€™d say don'™t believe that. Look deep inside your soul and find out what fascinates you. Push the boundaries. That'€™s how skateboarding and rap became cool," says Jarasa.

Classic Asian Video

This is probably one of the best known of the Asian mini movie music videos...filled with LOVE, HOPE, TRAGEDY and totally EFFED UP SADNESS and DRAMA.

If this is your first time seeing this...you may want to grab some tissues....about 8 mins long.

The song is called BECAUSE I AM A GIRL, by now defunct Korean girl pop group K.I.S.S. They released like 3 albums and then broke up. This video is crazy...DRAMA. and I mean DRAMA!

My Obsession - the latest in video

Sigh....April was a tough month....ugh

Jordan Countdown Pack - 2/21

This is my second CDP (Count Down Pack). Quick recap for those that don't know...for 2008 Brand Jordan is not releasing any retro shoes. Instead, they are releasing ALL the shoes in a combo pack. Two pairs of shoes from the Jordan line....that when combined will equal 23. The first pack was the 10/13 that I have. This is the another set that I wanted the 2/21. I mainly wanted the II. That shoe just looks so great in my opinion. So I really paid for the 2 and the 21 is just an extra shoe!

Here are the pics!

The Jordan Countdown Packs come in this amazing box. The shoes are doubled up in a cigar style top and it is very very cool looking.

Another cool thing is the XXI comes with another set of heel air cushions. You can switch from Nike Zoom Air to the Nike Air capsules.

CNN's Coverage of China is Raising Hackles

April 19, 2008; Page A5

HONG KONG -- A growing movement to protest CNN's coverage of China has in recent weeks generated its own Web site, theme song, and now, it seems, army of hackers.

Commentator Jack Cafferty has elicited anger from Chinese viewers of CNN.

Friday, the Time Warner Inc.-owned Cable News Network Web site experienced problems that prevented users from accessing the site -- what appeared to be a "denial of service" attack instigated by hackers. Users trying to access CNN.com were unable to do so at least temporarily in certain Asian markets, including Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and mainland China.

CNN said in a statement that it "took preventative measures to filter traffic in response to attempts to disrupt our Web site." It added that a small number of users in Asia were affected, and it was working to restore access quickly.

No one has taken credit for Friday's outage, but Chinese hackers on Internet bulletin boards have called for attacks on the site in recent days.

Over the past month, the channel has become the target of scorn and anger from many Chinese viewers -- most recently, over comments made by its on-air commentator Jack Cafferty. While talking about China on an April 9 broadcast, Mr. Cafferty said, "I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years."

Under Fire: CNN's coverage of China has sparked protests, including an apparent hacker attack on the network's Web site.
On-Air Remarks: The latest criticism of CNN involved statements about China made by commentator Jack Cafferty.
Network Responds: Officials were working to restore access to the site, saying a small number of users in Asia were affected.

Mr. Cafferty "used the microphone in his hands to slander China and the Chinese people [and] seriously violated professional ethics of journalism and human conscience," said China's foreign ministry spokeswoman, Jiang Yu, Tuesday. CNN issued a statement saying Mr. Cafferty's comments represented his "strongly held" opinion of the Chinese government, not the Chinese people. But the clarification didn't appear to placate its critics in China.

CNN first ran afoul of Chinese bloggers in late March who objected to the way it cropped photos of the recent unrest in Tibet to show a police van, but not people nearby attacking the vehicle with stones. A Beijing Internet entrepreneur, Rao Jin, soon started a Web site called anti-cnn.com to document mistakes on CNN and other foreign media. The site receives as many as five million clicks a day, he says.

His effort spawned the increasingly popular slogan "don't be too CNN," which in China apparently now means "don't be too biased." Since then, two songs lampooning CNN, complete with video, have become popular on China's Internet. Both are called "Don't Be Too CNN."

"Why do you rack your brains in trying to turn black into white? Don't be too CNN," sings an online singer named Murong Xuan in one of the songs.

Other international media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, have come under criticism in China for their coverage of the unrest in Tibet. But CNN, whose staff have received threats, appears to have become a proxy for what many Chinese see as Western media bias that villainizes China just as the country prepares to make a global splash through its hosting of the summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

A translation of the lyrics of "Don't Be Too CNN." (Translation is by Wall Street Journal reporter Sky Canaves.)
CNN's warped reporting on Tibet, and the Tibetan separatist attacks on the Beijing Olympics torch relay, made me write this song
Don't be too CNN
That day on the internet I suddenly saw a photo
It showed the riots taking place in Tibet
CNN's simple promise, the whole truth is inside
But I gradually discovered, it's actually deception
No matter how much the world changes, the blue sea becomes a field of mulberry trees
The fake South China tiger and this kind of photo [CNN Lhasa image], I despise them equally
You can't turn lies into the truth by repeating them a thousand times,
The dark night makes my eyes black, but I will still use them to seek the light
How they rack their brains, to turn falsehoods into the truth, don't be too CNN
How can you possibly turn Jay Zhou into Li Yuchun [supergirl winner]?
How they rack their brains, to turn falsehoods into the truth, don't ever be CNN
I preferred that you all just be very stupid and very naïve
I preferred that you all just be very stupid and very naïve

CNN International is one of about 30 foreign TV channels allowed limited distribution in China, though that distribution is largely confined to high-end hotels and special compounds. Analysts at the Hong Kong-based Media Partners Asia estimate the CNN International channel takes in more than $100 million in advertising revenue around all of Asia each year.

Online forums for Chinese hackers Friday were filled with discussion over whether -- and when -- they should launch an attack on CNN's Web site. On the blogspot home page of a hacker calling himself Laozi, hackers said that a "flame of revenge" attack on CNN's Web site would take about three hours to complete. They didn't specify how an attack would be accomplished.

Some also said that fears of retribution had caused them to cancel plans for an attack originally scheduled for Saturday. "I love my nation very much! But I love my parents and family more," wrote one person using the name Yan Zhao Shen Lang.

Scott Henderson, the Kansas-based author of "Dark Visitor," a book on Chinese hackers, says he first noticed discussion of a CNN attack on hackbase.com, one of the largest Chinese hacker Web sites, on Wednesday. "They were calling for everyone to get together to coordinate using large numbers of compromised computers to attack CNN," he says.

Since 1998, he says, a group of Chinese hackers has orchestrated similar attacks on computers belonging to the governments of Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan and the U.S. "This made them nationalist heroes and developed a culture of activism online," he says.

I am so PHLY!

This is the new JORDAN PHLY. The Jordan Phyl was made to pay homage to Michael Jordan's High School Coach “Pop Herring” (PH). Coach Clifton “Pop” Herring and Jordan had a special relationship, and this was the same coach that cut Jordan from the Laney High basketball team during his Sophomore year. Pop Herring cut Jordan from the team in 1978, and the roman numerals - MCMLXXVIII (1978) is featured on the heel.
This is the best colorway of the shoe IMO. It is called Baroque Brown/Chino White.
I think it will look great with jeans, khakis or some cargo shorts etc. The best color for sure!

Julie D going to NYC!!!

One of my best friends in the world is my old Radio Disney colleague Julie D. Julie recently accepted a great job offer in NYC! She will be moving next month to start a new life working in the big apple! Super exciting and I am very very proud of her. This morning a few of us got together and had brunch at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood.

Yup...that was all me...your boy knows how to throw down with the Chicken Fried Steak...it tasted as great as it looked.

Here is me and Julie. Although we have not had much time to get together, the thought that she is gone will be sad and I will miss her. But hey never hurts to have one more contact in NYC if and when I go back right?
the RD BOYZ hahahaa...this is a great pic for me. Me, Joseph and Paul the Radio Disney boys. We were like the only ones on the whole team. Pretty cool I must say. Paul is married with his little boy Lucas, and Joseph is getting married next month. Which of course just leaves me...as usual.

So sad....I am literally speechless

First off...let me give props to my boy JOHN. I don't know HOW or WHERE he finds this stuff. I had to blog about this clip after I saw this on John's blog first. So I cannot take credit for this pathetic video. I don't know what to say....I am just posting this on my blog too...because it bugs me. See for yourself.

Noelani's 1st Birthday

I attended my old high school friend's daughter's birthday. Noelani is 1 year old and she is the daugter of Matt and Tina.
Here is a shot of me and Matt. I have known Matt now for what....TWENTY YEARS! Yup...around 1988 in while attending the LA County High School of the Arts at Cal State LA. Matt was one grade up but we all still hung out. He is now a tattoo artist that lives in Hawaii and work in Waikiki. Pretty amazing how you can stay in touch and still be friends with some people...when there are others that just kinda disappear out of your life very easily. Strange indeed. It was really good to see him.

And this is his princess. Little Noelani. She was really enjoying her first birthday cake. Matt and Tina growing the Hapa population with another cutie pie.

I Know BO KNOWS....1987-1990

Aaahh...high school. I remember like it was yesterday...maybe I wish it was yesterday. It is weird how some objects...simple as a SHOE...can bring back memories. Deep rooted memories...not specific ones...but it just reminds me of a time. Riding my bike, my first car, meeting new people at a new school...just an era of life that was much much simpler. I hate sounding so much like a hallmark card but...what I have here...is really special to me. I was late to AIR JORDANS. I never could afford them. I was not a basketball player I don't even like sports. But..something about "cross training" and BO JACKSON that made it COOL!

The NIKE AIR TRAINER I - First released in 1987. It was brought back in 1990 as the "first all around training shoe." It then released again in 1993. Seven years past and it came out again in 2000. Now...in 2008 the retro is ONLY AVAILABLE IN EUROPE and ASIA. Yes...why did Nike only release this in Euro and Asia? Well...I had to search long and hard for these badboys.

These shoes have been retroed in the ORIGINAL bad ass colorway of what is known as "Chlorophyl" for the green accents.

These shoes are a great time capsule for me. I love these shoes...if I can I will order a second pair to save. But as of now...cannot do it. I will just enjoy these as much as I can.

Here are all the Air Trainers I have...
Air Trainer I, and Air Trainer III SC in White/Blue and Red/Grey

Kobe has hops...what can you say?

Great commercial for Nike's newest shoe the HYPER DUNK. And NO Kobe was in no danger and the whole thing was "staged" a la Hollywood.

AIR JORDAN XX3 - White/Stealth

Today was the release of the 4th colorway of the AIR JORDAN XX3. These are the WHITE/STEALTH

Same as the other XX3, pictures do no justice to the shoe. The shoe in person is GORGEOUS. It is beautiful. It was debated in the net about the love/hate regarding the gold on the shoe. Let me just say, the gold is fine. It makes the shoe POP and it is such a CLASSIC looking shoe. It is just one of a kind.
I only bought one pair as I do not 2 of these. The next ones to grab will be around the end of May which are the white/red colorway. EVERYONE is talking about those...those will be hard to get. I will have to have all my connects in check if I am to get those. Anyway...LOVE THESE SHOES.

The year was 1990

The year was 1990...I was a Senior in HS! Yes I am OLD. It was senior year...about to graduate! Something else was happening around this time...a great tennis player was kicking butt on the court. A wildman...someone named ANDRE AGASSI. Dude DOMINATED Tennis. He was signed to NIKE...and NIKE released his FIRST SIGNATURE SHOE - THESE BABIES!!!

NIKE - AIR TECH CHALLENGE II - in the original colorway of HOT LAVA!!!

Do you fellow old folks remember Agassi in the hotpink polo shirt and shorts and headband? Dude was killing it! These shoes bring back so many memories me. These are of the first shoes I bought myself with my own money. Man...rockin these things was just so cool. HOT PINK? Are you kidding me? Man....classic I tell ya.

Nike did it right with these RETRO. They should be available this week and next at select shoe stores that ordered them. But you may have a hard time finding these as many stores did not order many or order at all...because the previous retro ATC was bunk. Came out, no one bought them and they were in sale bins everywhere. Shoe people are so finicky...you NEVER know what is hot and what is going to resonate with fans. These shoes do it...the others one did not. I cannot wait for it to get warmer and rock these with some shorts....just gotta find the JUST DO IT shirt in matching Hot Lava to make the whole outfit!

NEW YORK - Got a passion for buying sneakers? It could be a good sign, with a poll finding that people who buy three pairs of sneakers or more a year are far more likely to be a leadership type that other people.

Mindset Media, a media company that examines personality traits of different consumers, found that people who buy more than three pairs of sneakers a year are 61 per cent more likely to have the qualities of a modern leader.

These qualities were defined as having ideas and vision, and a style with others that is both inclusive and decisive.

The survey of 7,500 people, using market research group Nielsen's online panel, found multi-sneaker buyers were 50 per cent more likely to be very assertive and 47 per cent more likely to be spontaneous.

Lauren Arvonio, a spokeswoman for Mindset Media, said sneaker buyers were more likely to fly by the seat of their pants.

"It is often said you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes they wear, and now we have some hard data to back that up," Arvonio said.

"What is interesting is that these personality traits held true across the board, regardless of age, income, or gender."

Previous Mindset Media surveys found that people who pay their credit card bills off each month were more likely to be "highly deliberate" - thinking through their actions - but also less modest than others and likely to brag about their habits.

Hybrid car owners were found to be 78 per cent more likely to be highly creative than other people and less dogmatic.

I have no words for this BS....

California: Police Raid Car Enthusiast Gathering, Generate Revenue
Police raid Riverside, California parking lot to issue modified car tickets at local car enthusiast gathering.

Parking lot raidUsing $503,000 in federal and state gas tax revenue to pay for overtime, nine police agencies in Riverside, California sent more than one hundred police officers to surround a gathering of automotive enthusiasts. Owners of imported sport compact cars had gathered at the Canyon Crossing shopping center on Friday night to swap stories, talk about their passion for cars and show off the latest enhancements to their rides. At around 11pm police surprised participants by blocking all exits with fifty police cruisers. Officers then began a warrantless search and interrogation operation of the 150 vehicles that were present.

"If you're not into street racing, why would you need that?" Riverside Police Traffic Sergeant Skip Showalter asked an enthusiast during a similar crackdown last year. "Why would you want more power going to your car?"

Police issued a total of forty-eight tickets for "engine modifications" with police accusing the owners of the parked vehicles of being street racers. Another fifty tickets were issued for paperwork violations, dark window tinting and lack of a front license plate. The most revenue, however, will be generated from the fees imposed on twenty vehicles that were confiscated. Despite labeling the parking lot raid as taking place at a "street racing venue," Riverside Police offered no evidence that any street racing actually took place.

Across the state, gas tax funds are regularly used to fund similar crackdowns that generate big revenue. In 2004, the California Highway Patrol issued a total of 101,553 "modified car" citations worth $10.5 million according to CHP data obtained by TheNewspaper.

Other law enforcement agencies participating in Friday night's raid included the California Highway Patrol, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, and police from Baldwin Park, Fontana, Irwindale, Moreno Valley, Ontario and Mount San Jacinto Community College.
