So here is my beef. WTF is with these arty farty movies? OMG! Look I love film..I love indies and I love a stupid blockbuster. But it seems the academy and maybe Hollywood in general are slipping into more and more "inaccessible" film for the general idiot such as me. I mean where are the commercial successes? Remember films like TITANIC and GOODWILL HUNTING or AMERICAN BEAUTY, A BEAUTIFUL MIND, GLADIATOR, TRAINING DAY etc etc...where are the truly HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTERS!

Of that list of films I am MAYBE..and I am stating MAYBE interested in seeing THERE WILL BE BLOOD because I like Daniel Day Lewis who is crazy! I am also slightly interested in JUNO. Now which brings me to my next point. WTF is up with all the downers? JUNO is the ONLY slightly uplifting film in all of these. The rest are pretty much DREADFUL and super DARK and super DEPRESSING. Man...this year sucks. I usually TRY to see all the best movie nominees but NOT this year. All the films are in "select" theaters and just really really high brow. I don't know...there needs to be a change. Maybe commercial means no awards? Why are there not better commercial films out? I guess that is a question for other to answer. I am just bitching and moaning about this year's lackluster film and the 2% of American that has seen and maybe even heard of any of these films.

Vegas baby!

So this last weekend...from Sunday night to Tuesday night the family went to Vegas to celebrate my sister's bday. Her bday fell on MLK day this year so she had it off, my mom usually has Monday and Tuesday off and my little brother is on vacation and me...well I am still jobless. So it all worked out that we ran off to vegas. We had some fun...gambling, eating and watching a cool cheesy vegas show...LEGENDS at the Imperial Palace. We also went to downtown to see the new Fremont street experience. Here is a video

all in all a fun trip.

My First Baptism

Today I attended my first Baptism. My good friends had their baby boy baptized today and I was invited. Very cool. We first had lunch at a local Chinese buffet in the area near the church. After lunch we all drove over to the church. It was a very quick ceremony I must say.

Little Lucas was baptized today!

Yup that was a very nice experience.

Other than that...normal Sunday. Hoping next week will bring some traction to my job search. I have made calls and followed up just waiting to hear back from several people. Let's hope for the best!

C&C for 2008

So this AM I woke up super early and met up with some fellow car minded friends and went to CARS & COFFEE in Irvine. This was the first meet of 2008 and the featured marquee was BMW. No worries there were plenty of "other" cars there. We rolled with 11 people and had 8 or so fab cars in our group. 3 Ferraris and 5 Porsches including at one time...2 GT3s. Not bad at all. Here are some pics...
some shots of the group as we parked in the outer lot and walked into the main lot....

As we were leaving C&C on our way to breakfast at CoCos!
Parking lot at CoCos

Not a bad morning at all. Sad to say my car was the crappiest in the bunch...relatively speaking of course. So it was good. I only had 3 hours sleep the night before so I was tired...headed home to take a nap and went for a mani pedi...havent had one in a long time. Fingers and toes looking much better now! HA!

time for bed as I have a friend's son's baptism tomorrow AM. I should be taking pics to share! Be back then...

More Rain, Chinese and TOTs

Sunday...and more rain in Los Angeles. It really came down today...this evening. Pretty much from 6PM until now pretty consistent rain.

This evening I met Melvin, my pal from FLS for dinner at my fave place in Little Tokyo. We met at TOT's on Second st and had dinner and basically caught up. He came back from a trip to the Philippines and Thailand. While in Thailand, he followed my footsteps and got a SAK YANT. A traditional sacred tattoo. Unfortunately, he did not get it at the temple, but he did find the same artist that did Angelina Jolie's tats. Well..ok it was an apprentice of his...Arjan Noo is his name. Here are some shots:
Here is Melvin's back. He got the Tiger Sak Yant which is the ultimate protective tattoo. Pretty awesome!

This is the Spicy Chicken Bowl from TOTs! My favorite dish at this place...I just love it!

This is a hot bowl of Soba...mmm mmm mmm..I usually get the cold Soba noodles...but since it was a nice cold and rainy night I opted for the warmth of some hot soba!

and this is the full SPICY CHICKEN BOWL COMBO....in all its splendor. Just love it...

I am starting something else today..or tomorrow. I have the Rosetta Stone, Chinese Mandarin I and II now. People have always said Rosetta Stone is the best out there...so I guess I will try it out. If my Mandarin gets better everyone will know it! HA! So...yeah I am very excited to try it out. I installed the software and have the CDs so I will definitely see how well it works. It seems to make sense the way you learn it with pictures and words matching them up etc. If I can learn Mandarin...after trying to do it many times before...this may well be the greatest invention to language ever developed. We shall see!

It Never Rains in Southern California

or so the song goes...but we are getting a good pouring now. But hey we need it and I personally love the sound and smell of RAIN. Los Angeles NEEDS this...so yeah it is a good thing.

Some updates to whats what...I spoke with a contact I had back at FLS, filmmaker. He called wanting to speak to me regarding doing PR for his new gig. Basically he told me he is the new President of the film division of a pretty well known Hip Hop music/record company. Sooo...I said I would help out and draft a proposal for him and see how it goes. I am checking on his story...and hey it could be a really big deal! So yeah that is good stuff.

I also received confirmation my car is going to be featured in a book. I emailed the author and he wrote back saying there are "several" pictures of my baby in the book! YES! So that shall be very cool. According to Amazon the book should be ready around March. We shall see! Very exciting to see how it comes out. Which of course means I am now a "published photographer!"

Pretty good stuff.

Finally some good news!

Well...so far the year is getting better so far!

1 - I received a call on the 2nd from a recruiter from GolinHarris a large PR firm with 31 offices around the world. They are pretty huge and they handle accounts like McDonald's, Nintendo and now Yahoo. So I am being considered for a Media Director position handling Yahoo. So I have a meeting on Tuesday in the afternoon. Pretty good!

2 - Today I met with my friends regarding a movie that we might make. The idea came to my and my old colleague over dinner and we pitched it...and well long story short we are going to have a script written and then seeing whats what. Who knows I may get an associate producer or at least a unit PR credit for helping out. Maybe at the very least a "from a concept by" credit. We shall see...

Looks like it is going to rain tonight and tomorrow. I am planning on hitting the gym tomorrow. Having dinner with mom, then dinner and a foot massage on Sat..and then Sun meeting Mel for dinner in J Town. Nice full weekend!

More on that as it develops!

2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! YAY! Let's hope for a GREAT 2008! I know I do....it cant get worst right?

Well..for NYE I went over to Waymond's home for NABE dinner with Matt, June, Marky and Paula. Very low key evening filled with good food, champagne, apple cide, Japanese red/white show and some Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark. Here are some shots from the evening!

Here is the group shot. Nice simple evening with good friends for 2008. Very nice!

Earlier in the evening Matt and I went to the Montebello Mall to run an errand and we met a cutie pie named Kim that worked at a kiosk. Matt saw her first and thought she might be kinda cool for moi....so we went back to I could meet her. Well...now we are going to try and go back sometime this week to see her again and maybe I can be brave enough to ask her out. We shall see. But yeah that was fun.

Let's see what 2008 will bring! I am excited to see what may happen. Nothing but good thoughts right? Put it out into the universe and make it happen!
